CHQ Welcomes Doctoral Student, Chengbo Zeng

Chengbo Zeng is currently a PhD student at the Department of Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior. He works under the supervision of Dr. Xiaoming Li. He earned his Master degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Sun Yat-sen University and Bachelor degree in Preventive Medicine from Guangdong Pharmaceutical University. His research interests are quantitative analytical methods and the mental health of people living with HIV (PLWH). His graduate studies were developing mobile health intervention to reduce depression among PLWH and applying statistical models to examine intervention mechanisms in randomized controlled trials. His current research topic in CHQ focuses on HIV prevention and health promotion.

Congratulations Dr. LaDrea Ingram! Yale Research Education Institute for Diverse Scholars (REIDS) 2018-2020 Cohort

Dr. LaDrea Ingram, a post doctoral fellow in the SmartState Center for Healthcare Quality (CHQ), will join the Yale Research Education Institute for Diverse Scholar (REIDS) 2018-2020 cohort!

The Yale Research Institute for Diverse Scholars (REIDS) program only selects four junior scholars throughout the country and, Dr. Ingram has been chosen to receive this honor. During the program, she will have the opportunity receive valuable research experience and training while working with Senior Implementation Science HIV researchers. In addition, she will be awarded $20,000 to conduct a pilot intervention in South Carolina as a part of the intensive training program. Akeen Hamilton will join the 2018-2019 cohort of the Graduate Civic Scholars Program (GCSP)

Akeen Hamilton has been selected to join the 2018-2019 cohort of the Graduate Civic Scholars Program. The Graduate Civic Scholars Program (GCSP) is an innovative professional development opportunity for master’s and doctoral students who are interested in community and public engagement and action-based research. GCSP provides opportunities for interdisciplinary research, involvement in social justice initiatives, and an enhanced understanding of the role of scholarship in addressing societal needs a doctoral student, has been selected for the 2018-2019 Graduate Civic Scholars Program (GCSP) of the Graduate School at the University of South Carolina.

Caroline Pascal, Magellan Scholar and Public Health graduate joins Peace Corps

Sayward Harrison, SC Smartstate Center for Healthcare Quality (CHQ) Research Assistant Professor and Director of Research, who mentored the Magellan Scholar in studying knowledge and awareness of human papillomavirus and human immunodeficiency virus among college students in South Carolina. “Dr. Harrison has given me valuable knowledge about the research process and about professional development in general,” Pascal says. “Her mentorship has greatly assisted me in my journey to graduation, and I know the lessons I have learned from her and the connections she has provided me with will continue to guide me throughout my professional life. CHQ Welcomes Dr. Hyunsan Cho as Research Associate Professor

Dr. Hyunsan Cho is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior. She earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her primary areas of interest are quantitative methodology, prevention research, policy evaluation, and adolescent risk behaviors including substance use, risky sexual behaviors, and suicidal behaviors. She has more than 17 years of research experience on many NIH funded projects in the field of adolescent risk behaviors, both in U.S. and global settings. Specifically, since 2007 her research has focused on HIV prevention among orphan adolescents in Sub-Saharan Africa.
