Dr. Xiaoming Li received NIH grant of more than $1.25 million to study COVID-19 using Big Data

Dr. Xiaoming Li has received a grant of more than $1.25 million from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to study COVID-19. Li and his collaborators will use this impressive award to employ big data techniques to develop a database that will help monitor the spread of COVID-19 in South Carolina, examine COVID-19’s transmission dynamics and disease progression and identify predictors of short- and long-term COVID-19 patient outcomes in the Palmetto State.

Dr. Shan Qiao is Awarded as Breakthrough Star – Recognized by UofSC for Her Research and Scholarly Excellence in Stigma and Isolation Associated with HIV/AIDS

Shan Qiao is recognized by the Office of Vice President for Research, UofSC, for her excellence in HIV-related research on three continents with a focus on promoting the linkage to care among people living with HIV and improving their clinical outcomes and quality of life. As part of that focus, she explores the ways in which HIV-positive individuals disclose their diagnoses to friends and family and develops strategies and interventions that can produce the best possible outcome for those involved. Qiao also is interested in reducing the chronic stress that often accompanies an HIV-positive status.
